We had set out mud paths between the beds but hadn’t put anything down to cover the surface. We had considered getting some hard wearing membrane to put down but, by a stroke of sheer luck, the owners of a neighbouring allotment had taken delivery of a truck load of wood chippings for their chicken coop. There was laurel mixed in at the bottom of the pile which is not suitable for use with livestock, so they kindly said that we could take what they couldn’t use in order to cover the pathways.
This worked out really well as we had enough to cover the paths in our section as well as Deb and Dan’s paths so the whole allotment now has lovely wood chip paving. #9 – newly laid wood chipping pathways really tidy up the appearance round the beds

Hi thanks for dropping by. I hope you enjoy this blog as I take you through our trials and tribulations as we try to get an allotment and actually grow stuff.
So who are we? Well, I'm Michelle and I had the bright idea of getting an allotment much to the shock of the whole family as I have no interest in domestic gardening whatsoever. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE sitting out and admiring my lovely garden at home but I can't take any of the credit for it. That's all down to my wonderful, ever-patient husband who I refer to as "Cloddigger" in this blog. This isn't a derrogatory name by any means - it merely pays credit to all the digging and heavy work he does as well as preserving his anonymity.
Other random players include our two sons - collectively "The Boyz"; our ageing Black Labrador - "The Dog"; our generous friends Deb and Dan, and my Mum and Dad - "My Folks". There may be others making the odd appearance.
Well that's the end of the Welcome Note, apologies for getting a bit waffly - with any luck my blog entries will be more interesting!!! Oh, and please feel free to leave comments by clicking on the "scraps in the compost bin" link at the end of each post.
