It's been quite a while since my last post but, as you can see from the picture below, we've been rather busy at Site 1. After a rather shaky start, the lettuce are now well established and growing well. Potatoes are going mad, as are the onions. The beans and peas are finally starting to spread outwards and upwards. We've also planted up some cauliflower and jerusalem artichoke - which is new one for us so it will be interesting to see how they turn out.
Hi Michelle Your allotment looks very productive, it looks as though you and the husband work really hard on it. I had a great harvest this evening from my allotment. We bought home, spinach, broad beans, lots of strawberries and the last of our early potatoes,(swift)and a yellow courgette, all eaten for dinner, makes it all worth while. all the best maureen
Thank you :) Yes, it is hard work but I find it so enjoyable that I don't really notice - apart from the aches and pains the next day if I've overdone the digging LOL! Mmm, your harvest sounds lovely.
Hello! Thanks for popping by and don't worry about wiping the mud off your shoes. If you like what you read, then please feel free to leave a "scrap in the compost bin" especially if you have any helpful advice to offer an allotment newbie! Hi thanks for dropping by. I hope you enjoy this blog as I take you through our trials and tribulations as we try to get an allotment and actually grow stuff.
So who are we? Well, I'm Michelle and I had the bright idea of getting an allotment much to the shock of the whole family as I have no interest in domestic gardening whatsoever. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE sitting out and admiring my lovely garden at home but I can't take any of the credit for it. That's all down to my wonderful, ever-patient husband who I refer to as "Cloddigger" in this blog. This isn't a derrogatory name by any means - it merely pays credit to all the digging and heavy work he does as well as preserving his anonymity.
Other random players include our two sons - collectively "The Boyz"; our ageing Black Labrador - "The Dog"; our generous friends Deb and Dan, and my Mum and Dad - "My Folks". There may be others making the odd appearance.
Well that's the end of the Welcome Note, apologies for getting a bit waffly - with any luck my blog entries will be more interesting!!! Oh, and please feel free to leave comments by clicking on the "scraps in the compost bin" link at the end of each post.
